My institution like most has been affected by the financial climate of our nation and has made significant budget adjustments. Without the support of APRA-FL Assistance Scholarship Award I would not have been able to participate in this year’s state conference. I am thankful for the opportunity to hear from other professionals in the field of Development and network with my peers. Kudos to APRA-FL chapter!!!

Keynote:
Stand Out!

Presented by Jay Frost

In an era of budget cuts, how can we stand out? Keynote presenter Jay Frost leads an exploration to rediscover our biggest dreams, confront our darkest fears and push beyond the daily obstacles and temporary economic setbacks to shine at the office and beyond!

Jay Frost is a twenty-five year veteran of the fundraising industry specializing in prospecting for major donors. Jay has played a leadership role in a number of companies serving the fundraising industry. These roles include serving as vice president at FundraisingINFO.com (FRI), a provider of on-demand fundraising support; chief strategy officer at WealthEngine; and president and CEO at Wealth ID, pioneer in the asset screening and online prospect research business. Previously, Jay worked on the development teams of the International Rescue Committee and Meridian International Center and was a grantmaker at the National Endowment for the Arts. Today, Jay provides training and counsel through the offices of Frost on Fundraising and serves as a partner in BFTConnect, a start-up providing voice transcription solutions to fundraising offices. Also active on the social media front, Jay is the founder and manager of the Professional Speakers on Philanthropy Group on LinkedIn and the founder and manager of the Philanthropy Twibe, one of the top 100 Twibes on Twitter.

Other Topics:

Trends in Money: Who's Making It Now?
Presented by David Lawson & Lori Hood Lawson

In this session, we'll look on the bright side of the economy, where people are making money in spite of and/or because of the great recession. From start ups to established companies, discover how to find and profile today's wealth for tomorrow's gift.

Trends in Philanthropy
Presented by Margaret Linnane

In considering trends in philanthropy, we will take a look at who is giving, how and why. Of course, we will have to overlay a lingering recession on what we know, but there are other considerations that define giving in 2010 and the future. Bring your own insights into this topic to the session.

A View From the Road
Presented by Doug Elliot

Many fundraisers feel that the present state of the economy provides more of a context for “donor sowing” than harvesting. This presentation is a Major Gift Officer's (MGO) perspective (“view from the road”) in these troubling economic and highly competitive times on how the critical relationship between MGO and Donor Researcher should be redefined or evaluated in this context, and how relationship mapping can play a role in this and provide a competitive edge.
