About the event

What do Jeff Bezos, Sam & Helen Walton, and Cresset Capital have in common? Obviously, Bezos and the Waltons are billionaires, but what does Cresset Capital have to do with them? Their point of commonality: The family office. But what does that mean? What does that tell us about wealth? And better yet, how does that impact their philanthropy? In this session, we’ll explore this giving vehicle to help you better understand how high-net-worth individuals think and organize their wealth.

Elisa Shoenberger, Research Consultant (she/her), is the profile lead at Aspire. She is a researcher and writer in Chicago with over eight years of experience in the fundraising sector. Prior to Aspire, she served as a prospect researcher at Loyola University Chicago and a benchmarking analyst at Grenzebach Glier and Associates.

Elisa earned her MBA in marketing and operations management from Loyola, an MA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a BA in history from the University of Chicago.

She writes regularly for Book Riot, Library Journal, and Murder & Mayhem. She has written about philanthropy for Inside Philanthropy, the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Daily Dot, Brainfacts.org, and others. She has spoken at several fundraising conferences for both international and local chapters of APRA and others. She has published with the Boston Globe, Wired, Slate, Huffington Post, Business Insider, and many others. She has written In Good Company: A Guide to Corporate Fundraising (2021), Disruptive Philanthropy: A Guide to Donor Advised Funds (2022), Volatile Opportunity: A Guide to Cryptocurrency and Fundraising (2023).
